Create designs for a new exhibition space that introduces tourists to Iceland’s Þjórsárdalur Valley.
Overview
Þjórsárdalur is a Valley in the South that has had a flourishing community since the Settlement of Iceland until an eruption in Mt. Hekla in the 13th century buried the farms in pumice from the eruption. In the early 20th century, archaeologists excavated some of the farms, giving scientists valuable information on buildings and the people living there. The Valley was never rehabilitated, but today, there are plans to build a visitor center for travelers, with information on the area’s history and information on the highlands in Central Iceland. The center will serve as a gate to the highlands, which makes perfect sense since it is the last place on the lowlands travelers pass before going into the wild.
Brief
Create designs for a new exhibition space that introduces tourists to Iceland’s Þjórsárdalur Valley. Interpret the valley’s history, geology, and natural wonders for a broad audience using engaging methods and interactive exhibit solutions. Work in teams to develop the content and quickly rendered design solutions. Gagarin will share their solutions at the end of the project.
